Automatic disc separator for solid-liquid separation and automatic slag discharge
A 2-phase disc centrifuge for solid-liquid separation and automatic slag discharge is a high-speed centrifugal separator used for continuous solid-liquid separation (clarification), effectively removing fine solid particles from a liquid. It can generate high centrifugal forces, typically up to 12,000 G, to achieve high clarification efficiency.
How It Works
The 2-phase disc centrifuge operates on the principle of density difference and centrifugal force, which significantly speeds up the natural settling process based on gravity.
Feeding the Mixture: The liquid mixture (feed) containing fine solid particles enters the centrifuge bowl through a central feed pipe.
Acceleration and Separation: The mixture is rapidly accelerated to the rotational speed of the bowl. The high centrifugal force pushes the denser solid particles outward toward the rotating bowl wall.
Role of Disc Stack: Inside the bowl, a series of conical discs (the disc stack) divide the liquid into many thin layers, which dramatically increases the effective settling area and shortens the distance the solid particles need to travel to be separated.
Collection and Discharge: The separated solids accumulate in the solid collection cavity at the periphery of the bowl. The clarified, less dense liquid phase moves inward and is discharged through a separate outlet, often under pressure via a centripetal pump, to prevent foaming.
Solids Removal: Depending on the design, accumulated solids are removed either manually or automatically through a self-cleaning (self-discharging) mechanism that opens the bowl intermittently to eject the solids.
Key Applications
The 2-phase disc centrifuge is used in various industries where high-purity liquid clarification or fine particle removal is required, especially for feeds with low solid content (ideally less than 1-3%).
Food & Beverage: Clarification of fruit juices, vegetable oils, beer, and coffee; separation of dairy products like milk and cream; and yeast production.
Biotechnology & Pharmaceutical: Clarification of fermentation broths, cell harvesting, protein isolation, and purification of vaccines and biologicals.
Chemical & Mineral Oil: Purification of industrial oils (e.g., hydraulic, lubricating, marine diesel fuel) to remove water and fine sediments.
Biofuel: Deacidification, degumming, and water washing steps in the production of biodiesel.
