What is decanter centrifuge?

Introduction:

A decanter centrifuge is a kind of continuous operation sedimentation centrifuge.It mainly consists of a cylindrical conical drum, a screw conveyor, a drive system, a feeding system, and a discharge system. The drum rotates at a high speed, and the screw conveyor rotates at a slightly different speed inside the drum.


Working Principle:

The material to be separated is fed into the drum through the feeding system. Under the action of centrifugal force, the solid particles in the material are thrown to the inner wall of the drum and form a sediment layer. The screw conveyor continuously transports the sediment to the conical end of the drum for discharge. The liquid phase, on the other hand, flows out from the other end of the drum, thus achieving the separation of solid and liquid phases.

Separation principle

Sedimentation horizontal decanter centrifuge: It mainly relies on the action of the centrifugal force field to make the solid particles in the suspension settle on the wall of the drum, thus achieving solid  liquid separation. It is commonly used for the separation of suspensions in fields such as sewage treatment, chemical engineering, and pharmaceuticals, for example, the dehydration treatment of sludge in urban sewage treatment plants.

Filtration horizontal decanter centrifuge: There is a screen on the drum wall. Under the action of centrifugal force, the liquid is discharged through the screen, and the solid particles are retained on the screen, thereby realizing solid  liquid separation. It is suitable for the separation of suspensions with relatively coarse solid  phase particle sizes and high concentrations. Two-phase decanter centrifuge: It is a kind of horizontal decanter centrifuge equipment mainly used to achieve the separation of solid-liquid two phases or two immiscible liquid-liquid two phases. When carrying out solid-liquid separation, through the powerful centrifugal force field generated by the high-speed rotation of the centrifuge, the solid particles settle on the inner wall of the drum, while the liquid is distributed inside the drum.

Then, the screw conveyor is used to push the settled solids to one end of the drum for discharge, and at the same time, the liquid flows out through a specific liquid discharge port, thus completing the solid-liquid separation. When carrying out liquid-liquid two-phase separation, two immiscible liquids with different densities are stratified according to the density difference under the action of centrifugal force. The liquid with a higher density is close to the outer wall of the drum, and the liquid with a lower density is close to the center of the drum. Then, they are respectively discharged through the corresponding liquid discharge ports to achieve liquid-liquid separation.
